FAMILIES LOVE WINTER WONDERFEST EACH YEAR

Every year for 16 years, Windy City residents have kicked off their coldest season with the Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier. Sponsored by the Fifth Third Bank, the current celebration runs through January 8.

A visit to Winter WonderFest is the perfect family outing. Among the most popular activities are winter mini golf, a 15-foot snow tubing mound and a toboggan tunnel. Almost everybody loves skating on the Blackhawks rink and going on a variety of carnival rides. The 170,000 square feet of rides, holiday-themed activities, giant slides and more attractions create an enormous indoor playground that celebrates winter. Millions of Chicago families now consider this event an important part of their yearly holiday tradition.

THE NAVY PIER

The Navy Pier is the site of many public events throughout the year. Part of the Streeterville neighborhood on the Near North Side, it consists of more than 50 acres of gardens, exhibition facilities, restaurants, parks and shops. It also includes the Chicago Children’s Museum and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

This pier extends 3,300 feet along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Opened to the public in 1916, it ranks as Chicago’s top tourist attraction, logging more than 9 million visitors each year.

Getting to Navy Pier at 600 E. Grand Avenue is easy on public transportation. A number of CTA buses connect directly from “L” stops, Metra and additional rail stations. The facility is also easily accessible by taxi.

General admission to the Winter WonderFest is $10. Activity package prices vary. Hours are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday. At least one adult must accompany a child younger than 18.
